LNER 4472 Flying Scotsman Made from deep mined British coal. Approx size:- Height 40mm x Length 160mm x width 30mm The LNER 4472 Flying Scotsman (originally No. 1472) was built in 1923 for the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER)It was designed by H N Gresley and built at Doncaster railway works in Doncaster. It was used as a long-distance express train on the LNER and by its successors, British Railways Eastern and North-Eastern Regions, most notably the 10am London to Edinburgh Flying Scotsman service from which the locomotive got its name. When it was completed in1923 it initially had the number 1472 and was a flagship locomotive for the LNER. It represented the company during the British Empire exhibition at Wembley in 1924 & 1925. It was at this time it acquired the new number 4472 Flying scotsman. It was one of five locomotives used on the prestigious non stop flying Scotsman train service between London and Edinburgh. In 1934 it became the first locomotive to be officially recorded at 100 mph
